A colleagues new 9-3 1.9 TID 150 has got a service indication on it, the
main part says about 400 days to the next service, but there's also an oil
indication, that seems to be going down more rapidly, as though he's going
to have to replace the oil well before the 400 days.
Is that normal?  Should he be having a minor service (oil and filter change)
every 6,000 miles (10,000km) or is this something to make sure that the
coffers of SAAB dealerships remain above a certain level?

Peter.

A 6000 mile oil change is certainly good practice. Especially so in diesels
AIUI.

The owmers manual should tell him anyway !
