Yes, if you get a turbo, it's the same motor. The '97 had a few fixes
to things that broke on your '95. Otherwise it is nearly identical.
There are a few well known items that wear, no real surprises anymore.

Really just a new generation of the new generation 900. All the bugs
fixed from the previous serious. Oddly, they did not seem to introduce
a whole bunch of new bugs! Has the "advantage" of a hydraulic clutch.

The GM V6 requires frequent belt changes (or it goes poof). Most
Saabers avoid it. The '99 + 900 (9~3) is a good car. There are a few
issues.,

saab 4 cylinders are bullet-proof.... But plenty opels use the V6 and I
don't hear complaints. Regular 40K belt changes are a must but otherwise
it's OK....
The 93 is generally a better car all round the the 94-98 900.....it has a
"1000 improvements" - so must be ;-)

I believe the Saab schedule is 30K. Since you lose the motor if it
goes, you want to be careful.

I think that when they counted, if they put in a screw, two washers,
and a nut as a replacement, that was four improvements.

It's actually 60k (SAAB schedule), which is pretty standard for timing
belts.

The 9^3 sport sedan (2003 and later) was a far bigger improvement over
its predecessor than the 9^3 was over the NG900.
The *only* downside of the current models is all the dash electronica
that seems to come on pretty much all newly designed cars these days...
