Hi All

 I have a 1996 SL2 auto 105,000 miles been a nice car. Today I think
the transmission is going. When I go from 1st to 2nd gear there is a bang
very hard shift like you hit a pot hole that is what I first believed.
But it did it again. When I am over 45 to 50  mph no trouble seems fine.
I had a problem at about 56,000 mile with a bang when going into
reverse. Saturn rebuilt the upper throttle body for about $700.00.
I am I in need of a total rebuild here and at what cost can any one help.

Thanks Ron

SOunds like a valve body. This unit has some issues with the upper valve
body. I've heard of the nut on one of the main gears coming loose also but I
think upper valve body is the most common thing.

Saturn wanted to do a $2300 rebuild on my 95 SW2 at 87k.  I bought the
Valve Body for $442 - made NO difference.  Another Saturn shop replaced
the Input Shaft Nut for $282 (about $10 worth of parts and the tranny
doesn't have to come out).
