Well it's been about two months so its time for my car to breakdown!
After a long highway drive I got off the off ramp and started to drive, when
my car would usually shift into second, it jerked hard twice (I freaked out
as this is what happened when the spider gear threw.)  but it went on to
shift again, smooth...and the final gear it just let the engine rev until a
moment later it jerked into gear. It hasn't gone away and I'm hoping its
something simple. Though my instinct tells me something's trashed inside and
I already need a new transmission after only like 10k miles. Joy!

Have you checked your tranny fluid.. have you changed it and the
filter??

Sounds like the all-to-common-for-Saturns shifter slam. There is a cheap fix
and expensive fix.

Cheap fix (worked on my '99 SC2):
Do a drain-and-fill with Mobil1 synthetic ATF, drive it for several hundred
miles. If it still hard-shifts, drain and fill again.

Expensive fix:
The problem is poorly design solenoids in the trans. Take it to a reputable
shop and have them replace the solenoids and clean the pathways. A quick
Google search will bring up tons of hits.
