Oakland.
They were leftover engines that Pontiac got when they bought the company.
If I remember right it was on a Thursday and the special at the cafe was baked
steak. (Trying for extra, extra points.)

Chevy had their first V8 around WWI, but Oakland hadn't brought forth
Pontaic yet, so it wasn't one from their parts bin..
Probably from the same team who made the V12 Packard in the 1960s.

Hey! I just opened the ad and noticed that it didn't say V8, just 8.

Oakland had a OHV V8 engine from 1917 through 1923.
They brought out the FLATHEAD V8, 85 hp in 1930 and continued through 1932. The
last of the engines were put used up 1932 Pontiacs in 1933.
Pontiac brought out a new straight 8 engine in 1933.

All I know is what the guy who brings one to the hillclimb told me
and his is a 1932.
If you want I can get you his name and you can educate him.
It's a FLATHEAD V8 engine with a really odd exhaust piping arrangement.
Chevy's earlier shortlived effort in 1917-18 was an OHV.
