This weeks BUGSPORT is on line early, if you like
....T-shirts and sweatshirts and hats will be available at
York with permission of
Ted Bastein. He is very excited about the support the group
is giving to him.

Is it just me or every time someone posts about Bugsport I have that
brief moment of thinking "oh, cool, a new VW shop?" Not that the strip
isn't cool, mind you...
Eh, it probably *is* just me...

Interesting that you say that, many people think it is a
Studebaker site, as Ted said, th Studebakers happen
to just show up as part of the image. It is a on going story
about other things. I can't speack for Ted, nor
would I try, but there are other auto-off shoots if you
follow it from day 1. And yes "BUGSPORT" could be
taken for a community of VW bugs roaming like free range
cattle.

I used to quite into air-cooled VWs myself, and I seem to recall there
was a company called Bugsport that made aftermarket stuff for VWs.
Google might turn 'em up, I guess.
But, yep, when I see Bugsport, I think VWs.

My favorite VW shop is "Fisher Buggies" in Florida, I have even used
some of their stuff in street rods.

Bugsport is swatching flies
or here in Florida chasing and stepping on those huge palmetto bugs
(cockroaches).

Say Bondo, you gona be at Spokane this August? I'd sure like a shirt with
one of Ted's creations on it. Then again as I've a '62 GT, a '51 2R-5, and
a '57 transtar, maybe by the time Spokane comes around I'll need at least
three shirts with different creations on them. *G*
Ted sure does seen excited about all the suppourt that he's geting from us
stude folk dosen't he? IMHO, this is a good thing

I'd say perplexed rather then excited.

I would say amazed, perplexed, overwhelmed and most of all
pleased. I cannot speak
for him, but he really is tken aback how a group of car
folks would take his story under
their wing. He never realized that there were so many
Studebaker owners out there.
People are asking for their cars to be truned into flying
saucers which he is pleased about.
I did find that he method of doing these drawings are labor
intensive, and he combines pen and ink with
Adobe Photoshop, which has a huge learning curve.
I think there is a market for his stuff, and he jsut needs
the Studebaker folks to prove it.

I just noticed that Don looks alot like Jeff Rice. . .
And the wordage seems just like something Jeff would say.
UH-OH. . .SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION. . .
If Don wipes out that yellow cowboy hat or we see a flying Yellow 37' Coupe
Express
we will know the truth.
Beside he got that same hair line. <G>

Hi guys,
the name "Bugsport" is a spoof on the name of a real town "Bucksport".
I had no Idea about the volkswagen connection when I started the strip.
My family and I nick-named it "Bugsport" because of the amount of mosquitos
that show up there in the summer.
