I would use a package, minimum of 100 single edge razor
blades. There is only one
reasn he did that, the windows leaked, and once you remove
the chaulk, you will need
to rmeove the rubber frm the stainless trim. BECAREFUL that
trim goes ack on the new rubber before you
can put the rubber on a new windshiled

Yes, and no. YES if factory instructions were followed, no,

for putting antennas on the right. we had a Studebaker with
the antenna on the right.
Dealer installed.

Yes and if you have one, you just saved yourself about $195
to $260 for one

Is there one big metal knowb in the cneter and six to 8
buttons .......4 or three on either
side? The little balck ones can be adjuted by pulling out
the front 1/4 inch and tuning the raadio and then
pushing the whole button in, if power is on.

Thanks Bill,
I'd sure like to have one of those hand-crank antennas. I find them really
handy on the 56J and it makes it easier to put the car cover on.
Yes, the radio has the big centre button and 3 smaller ones on each side. Do
you know where I might find some schematics?
Best, Joe.

You can check on the interent for peopel who sel Sams
Photofacts. These were monthly or bi-weekly repair
guides that old time radio and TV repair shops used. When
you ordered a specific radio or TV model, they woul d
include one or two ther items.
I think I have a schematic for this radio, but I believe
there are guys on the NG who who have them within reach, where
I would need to look for about a week or so.

I think the only way to get off the silicone is with a razor scraper. If
the wife doesn't want to sit around, hand her the scraper (:-)

Brake cleaner does a fine job, and *usually* doesn't mess up the
paint.

Brake cleaner, eh? That combined with the razor blades might just be what
the doc ordered. Thanks Ron.

FYI,
The stainless does not go on before you put the windows in on a 52 and
prior models. If you read the service manual you will find that these
cars require the front and rear windows be inserted from the inside. I
have talked to a few people about this and have found that it is very
very difficult to install the stainless once a new gasket is used. It
appears that the reproduction rubber is not made exactly like OEM. I
also believe that the repro rubber is of a stiffer durometer which
prevents the rubber from flexing correctly to allow the windows to
fully seat. I talked to Studebaker Int'l and was told they are working
on improved gaskets for the 47-52 models.

You must insert the rubber around the windshield with the
stainless steel trim inserted into the rubber.
Once the window and the rubber is in, there is no known
way to get the trim in.
AFAIK the rubber being sold in the last 18 months has a
smaller cross section and makes it a tad easier to install.
You also must also use teh center clip to hold eveything in
place.
