I would appreciate any pieces of wisdom regarding the "STU-V" -made
Supercharger kits for 1955 Studebakers ? I recentlysaw one of the
STU-V branded intakes ( 2 x 2 bbl) on eBay and this reminded the
1955 Motorlife ( August) article about Supercharged Speedster. I would
be interested in knowing what the difference on the bracket etc. was
compared to the later 1957-58 GH / Packard set up. I have a 1955
President that someone modified with GH 289 + supercharger. I am
experiencing some difficulties with hood clearance now that I fixed
the hood. Thinner Avanti rubbers/mount do not help enough.
Exhaust/steerig box is the tight area ... I was wondering if someone
would have seenthis Motorlife 1955 set up and how it is different.
I enclose a link to my photos with a copy of the article I am
referring to.
I also enclose a link to the eBay-item ( STU-V" -branded intake)

Pekka,
The link to the article requires a log in. I'd really like to see it.
McCulloch made two supercharger kits for early, ('53 - '55 ) Studes.
The first version mounts low on the right side.
The later one mounts top center. The top part of the stock water manifold
is cut off; and two water hoses are run from the cylinder heads to the upper
radiator tank. The oil filler stack and fuel pump are removed. An oil
filler/breather goes in one valve cover; and an electric fuel pump was used.
The supercharger mounts lower than on a Golden Hawk, between the water
hoses, and clears the hood nicely.
I've read somewhere that there were 300 speedsters sold by a California
dealer, with the supercharger. That seems like a lot! I think there are
some pictures of the installation at: http://www.vs57.com/ .
I can sent pictures of the two early kits, with the parts spread out.
It's a large scan, of poor pictures; but may be useful.

Nice! Actually looks a lot like my car except mine is a Commander so
yours has a little extra trim (looks like yours has been "de-trimmed"
somewhat as well, which I like.) And of course yours is more together :/
I second the comment to check out vs57.com, I seem to remember at least
one picture of a '55 install.

Thanks for the kind words, Nate and the correction / recomendation,
Mike.
Yes the car is somewhat de-trimmed ... I plan to keep it this way for a
while as the paint is still pretty good other than on the hood which I
will have re-painted.
And I have a T10- 4speed ( "delivered" recently in the '56 Lincoln trunk
..) to go in as well as a Turner disc brake kit which I will put in
next month. I am still hesitating whether to put in powersteering or
to keep it stock in that respect.
Regarding the Hurst bench seat -type T10- shifter discussed here I
would appreciate input on which part number(s) to order with from
Summit ( or is there another export-friendly source recommended...?)

I'm not being kind, I really like your car :)
Regarding the shifter, you might want to talk to Phil Harris at
Fairborn Studebaker
http://www.fairbornstudebaker.com/
(he took over Ted Harbit's parts business) - he should have the numbers
for the correct shift lever etc. and he may even be able to ship to you
just as easily as one of the big parts places.
I think I also have the numbers somewhere, I can look them up for you
tonight if that would help.

The bracket for the 53-55 Studebakers was a side mount. There is a photo

Thanks.I did find the picture of the bracket now. So then should try
to find one with numbers ...
AS-1000 B ? 1952 to 1954 Studebaker (side mount)
or AD-1000 1953 to 56 Studebaker
.. to have the correct 1955 type assembly...

Pekka,
Both of the mounts you mention used the AS-1008 crankshaft pulley. I
don't know if they would line up with the Stude Golden Hawk pulley you have.
The early, side mount, used two idler pulleys on the tension arm. It's
shown as obsolete in the '56 McCulloch catalog; replaced by the top, center
mount. I'll send you high res. versions of the parts, with the old part
#'s. There was one of the top center kits on ebay a couple of years ago,
with pictures. Maybe Jim Moody at VS57.com saved them.
