Fighting a cold, dammit; one unintentional acquisition from the
Portland swap.
Woke up to the sound of a tractor running. Construction crew was here
erecting posts and girts for the shop. They are all in now; roof
trusses will arrive Friday. It's beginning to look like a building
now.
I got the Arizona Wagonaire off the trailer, but not before dropping a
plumb line from some likely-looking spots on the frame to the trailer
deck. Looks like the frame is shortened about 7/16" on the right side,
and the diagonals are out correspondingly. I don't think it will be
too bad of job to pull it true.
On the way home from Portland, I visited a second hand store in
Cranbrook, B.C., and came away with pair of old home radios. One is a
big old console job, circa late '30s, and the other is a table model
from West Germany circa 1960. That one worked when I plugged it in,
but it wants cleaning real bad.
I blew the dust out the works of the big radio, and determined that
the power cord was a crispy critter; the natural rubber insulation was
falling off in chunks. I found a power cord off a washing machine, and
installed that, hooking up the the ground wire as well, since the
radio needs a ground, anyway. Cleaned the switches with brake-clean,
and restrung the dial cord. Plugged it in, and by golly, it plays just
fine. The 6X6 "magic-eye" tuning indicator lights up only faintly, but
it does appear to work.
Makes you kind of wonder what momentous events were brought to the
original owner's living room by this old set; the declaration of war
in 1939, D-day, VE day, the bombing of Hiroshima, and many others, no
doubt. Kind of cool to hear it play again.

Gordon;
I should have asked you to stop by Renton on your way through town.
Not only to visit and talk cars, but to evaluate old radios. My wife
inherited her grandfather's console radio purchased in 1930 - spent $15
for a 15" full range speaker, $98.15 for the whole unit. Give me a
shout if you're in the Seattle area again. Maybe we can hook up in
Spokane later this year, eh?

Sure, Richard. I'd love to meet you.
If time and work permit, I may go to the Monroe swap meet. Went there
last year for the first time, amd really liked it. And I know it's
close to your neck of the woods.

Gordon, I'll have to look up and see when the Monroe swap meet is. If
you decide to do, let me know and we can set a time/place to meet.
Cheers,
Rich
