62 Hawk GT: Presolite distributor question

Hello-
I have a Press-yo-luck distributor on my 289.   I need to find out if
the Prestolite is a  full-time vacuum advance distributor.    The
Edelbrock Performer 1406 has a full time and metered vacuum ports.
Edelbrock's email tech support says that the metered port is the
preferred one.   That makes sense, I just wanted to ask you guys first.
Here is what one of there tips pages say.
Thanks
Tony in Austin.

Why not use the 1403 with electric choke?

Hi Bo,
This one has electric choke.   Edelbrock 600 cfm, square-flange,
electric choke ....#1406*
I have it sitting on one of J Rice's manfolds.   I do not know if a
spacer is needed, but I may add the half inch heat disapating from
Edelbrock .  Better safe than sorry.   When I got the car the carb was
on a 3 inch tall spacer/adapter.   The PCV valve line was attached to
the NTP port; the port fot Nitros.  And the vacuum advance was hooked
to the constant and not the metered vacuum port.   It did run; I drove
it to Austin from Kansas.

Thanks  Tony

You will need a spacer as the throttle linkage hits the  exhaust heat
crossover  when you open the throttle.
Studebaker always used ported vacuum but I changed mine over to full and
other that having to lower the idle speed a bunch noticed no change in
performance.

Hi Alex-
The "exhaust heat crossover",  is that the two little tubes that stick
out of the top of the intake manifold?   They look like something that
would bring heat to a manual choke system?

Yes, those are the two.
Most people just grind them off and put a dab of JB-Weld on there and paint
over them.
You can also take a punch and knock out the wedge plug that contains both
sides of the tube and tap the hold for a flush pipe plug. The linkage will
clear with the heat insulator gasket.

With a Mr Gasket #98 Heat dissapation set, the linkage will clear, and
you only need bend the choke tubes a bit (they can be bent back).

Thanks Ray-  I your tech help photo pages are great.   I have looked at
them often.  I bet the Mr Gasket will be less expensive than the
Edelbrock set.

Thanks Jeff-  Boy, I am relieved to hear the tubes can be removed
without problems if you have an electric choke carb.   Especially
because I cut them off already.   If the next owner (if I ever sell
this Hawk) can just buy an new one from you, or tap the holes on this
one.
*Question for Jeff:  would you like my old core?  It looks like it was
a 4 barrel originally.   Email me your address and I will include a
self addressed stamped envelop in the box.  You can send me back the
shipping cost.
