I can get the #648752W optional M 5 hood ornament reproduced here in the
USA.The cost would be $265.00 each and I would need 10 orders, ( no
money) to get this project  started.
 Let me know at cstude1@cox.net

How about reproducing the 55 coupe taillight housings?

Alex,
I would need to borrow two NOS quality housings. One for the casting
company and one for me to check the prototype casting with a caliper
before going forward with production.
I do not have new housings in stock to work with. I have a few very
used ones that I can not confirm dimensions.
Any help and I might make them. They will be USA made and cost more
than China products. But at least I can speak the language to make
corrections.

Hi Chuck

It will be pretty  hard to come up with a NOS one. Why would you need
two ? Will they destroy one in making the mold? And why would it need to
be NOS? If it was straight and not bent anywhere I would think even pits
would not be a problem. They could be filled with  Bondo or something
like and and sanded smooth. I don't know that much about the procedure
used, but it seems to me that the mold would not need to be made from a
nice chrome example, just a smooth and straight one? I wonder what the
problem was with the previous try  at making them? I hear they were  a
little small. If they were cast in brass that may explain it as brass
shrinks about 2% compared to pot metal.

I would think that this would be a worthwhile project as it would be no
big deal once the molds were made to modify them slightly to repro the
56J taillights as well.  As Alex says, do they really need to be NOS?
I can keep my eyes open for ones that simply don't have the mounting
bits busted off of them like most I see.

Depending on how they are made, NOS migh
be the only way to go. If the device
reads the item to be reproduced it can
read, and will read any and all
imperfections, and those imperfections
would be added into the tool. You need
the best original(s) you can find.
