How can I tell by the serial no. what year an early 50's stude might be?
Some wrecking yard studes have a lot of parts already stripped off of them
and the
serial no. is sometimes still there.

easiest way is by looking at the body tag on the cowl, from 56 on up
the first two digits are the year i.e. "56J-K7" is a 56 Golden Hawk
hardtop.  at some point they started adding this to the serial number
as well, my '62 Lark is "62V-xxxx" but the body tag says "62V-J8" so
the info is at both place.
