on a '55 Stude, how are the terminals arranged on the battery? Was
going to run to parts store with battery box to see if I could get
anything 12V to fit the stock box, but I don't know if +ive goes toward
the front or not. I ASSume it would actually go to the rear but don't
know (I need new battery cables anyway; either way one of them is too
short.)
thx,
nate

Nate, if its converted to 12 volt, where is the starter solenoid???
IF its on the fender close to the firewall or on the firewall, the
positive would be on that end wouldnt it??
AFAIK the terminals would always be close to engine. I just put a
Optima 75/35 in my 64 Champ. Fit like a Champ!

Positive is in front the six volt, but it's positive ground.

Thus proving that it was not a "dumb battery question."

I think you should have the grounded terminal towards the front. That
way, with the decreasing hood clearance toward the front, you get a bit
of extra insurance if the hood should come in contact with the top of
the battery.

You are correct, at least for 53-64 C/K's.

If you're replacing the cables anyway, and are not concerned with
authenticity, why not go to a side terminal battery? No worries about
the terminals then.
