Does anyone make a good, cheap tach/dwell meter anymore? I suspect I
may need one as I think the $5 no-name unit that I picked up at a
Porsche swap meet 10 years ago has finally packed it in. (you'd think
it would have lasted longer <G>) Was trying to adjust the idle on the
'55 and realized that the tach was reading way high (still said 800 RPM
and the throttle plates were completely closed) and then discovered the
reading didn't change when I flipped between 6 and 8 cylinders on the
switch :/
But at least my tranny is kicking down again...

Try Sears. I have one from there that I have been using for 20 years or so.
I also have one of the Sun distributor machines that I need to work with a
little so I can figure out how to use it. It was made back in the late 40's
and most of the stuff still works on it.
