I'm installing the headliner for the 63 Lark we're working on, and I've
run into a bit of a challenge in that I'm missing three, um, retainers
(?) for the headliner bows.  The bit I'm referring to is the little
round plug that goes in the bow hole to keep the bow from sliding too
far in.  It's not shown in the parts book, and I can't tell from looking
at the Geno Fastener catalogue if there's a suitable replacement there.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or retainers to spare, or some old
wreckage in the back forty the can pull a few from?  I'd REALLY like to
get this car finished, so I can move on to other projects.

Thanks!

Judy

Holy smokes!

I might have some from one of the cars I parted out, but the question
is, as always, finding where they are.

I'll have a look.

   Judy,
I replaced my headliner last summer in my 1963 Lark 2dr sdn. I
was able to get the clips from SASCO. I looked up the part number
before I ordered them. I have a chassis and body parts manual that had
the part number. I can get you the part number if you need it. I'm at
work right now, so I don't have acess to the book. I have some extra
NOS clips at home and some of the originals that I didn't use. How many
do you need ? Maybe I can put them in an envelope and send them to you.
I may have around 6 of them laying around.  Joe Flannery in Dumont,NJ

Judy,
I use what is called a "tube nut" or "Barrel Nut", It's the larger
version of the inserts that your "Studebaker and Champ" chrome scripts
push into.  These come in a variety of sizes... and are available at
most Nut/Bolt distributors or industrial supply houses. Ask to see their
AuVeCo catalog, and look at the "Tubular Nut" pages.

In a pinch, I have used a cotter pin... opened up and bent to hold the bow.

Well, as luck will have it, the local doesn't carry the right size
barrel nut, and the other places I know of that would aren't accessible
to me after work hours or Saturdays.  All my cotter pins are too small,
and can't find my baling wire, but I did finally try the cable ties
gathering dust in the corner - they're big, sturdy, and I was able to
yank them tight enough so they don't slip, and they're large enough to
just take up the slack between the bend in the bow and the end of it.

I would like the part number, if anyone has it, so I can order a mittful
from Sasco - I have a few more headliners in my future, it's always nice
to have just the right little bit on hand.
