I just bought a '58 Provincial Wagon to resell.  Here it as I loaded it
last Wednesday after 8 years of slumber (the car was sleeping, not me
<g>).

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ddstnkmp/album?.dir=9018

I bought it from the second owner.  It has spent its life in
California's Central Valley.  Rust free.  Original (chalky) paint.
Original red and black (tattered) interior.

I really like these '58's.  They are soooo "over the top".  Not the car
to use as a getaway vehicle in a bank robbery <g>.

It's at my house in the San Francisco Bay Area.   $2500 to a NGer
before I clean it up and put it on eBay.

Gee, that's a neat looking wagon, Dick.

Does it run? I noticed dual exhausts. 289 car?

Good thing i don't need another project. <G>

I haven't tried to start it yet, but the PO says it ran and shifted
fine (auto) when he parked it (I think it must be the law that PO's say
this <g>).  I'll probably fire it up this weekend.  The engine is free.
The brakes are still up on it.  New 205 75 14 radials.  TT.

The engine serial number begins with a "V".  I think that's a 259.  I
was told that they only made 2,200 of these Provincial wagons and that
only one or two had a 289...the rest had 259s.

I can picture you in the car, Gord, pulling onto the show field in
Spokane this fall <g>.

I love to have that Starliner! Not sure if it'd fit in my garage, but
I'd love to have it!! :-)

It is distressingly homely. I love it.

Probably one of the nicest '58 J-body's you'll ever come across.  Looks
great in a single tone paint scheme.  Other than the factory A/C, looks
rather sparsely equipped with only a manual tune radio and no cigar lighter
or clock.

The AC was added, Jim spent 17K on the restoration, it cost him $1100 to
replate the beltline  chrome and took him a year and a half to get the
interior made. He know he'll loose money on the deal, but it does look
nice. I think the light, single tone paint job blends the fins and head
light pods better.

I must be on the wrong drugs, it looks like a product of incest between
a '57 Plymouth Fury and an Edsel.
Pat Drnec - 22 Apr 2005 14:56 GMT
Not incest - miscegenation.

Hopefully it will go to a location where no front licence plate is required.
As with the Avanti, a front plate will ruin the look of it.

That car looks a LOT better than some of GM's 1958 offerings!  The only
thing GM did a better job at that year was hiding the gas cap.

Let's just say the designers never gave consideration for a front plate.  If
you have seen a '58 with a front licence plate, it does look like a tacked
on
afterthought.  The stylists should have known nearly every state/province
required a front plate, and would have made an integral provision for one.

Craig.

I've gotta say, the best looking Chevy ever was the '58 SS Impala.

May be the best looking car of ANY 1958 model!

Too bad they went bananas with those crazy horizontal fins the next two
years...
