Jeff, if you are still looking the car is driveable now, if you are
seriously into the deal I can make the effort to drive the car some more
to make sure everything is copacetic :)

Poor N8
"the car is driveable now" Translation: Time to take it apart.<g>
(If you do the engine swap, might as well do the four speed, than....)

I am looking for a decent running 289 a/t for Lloyd Kendrick's Transtar
pickup.
I have two that I could rebuild, but it may be faster on my end to drop in
an engine that is running and get him going.
I just need some assurance that the running engine will run for a while...
That's why I didn't snap up JP's engine. It was unknown to him, as told to
me.
And Lloyd doesn't need a race engine... (a term used lightly <g>)
I want a later trans in it (I have a Powershift now)
Let me know what you want for it Nate... I'm still in vacillate mode..

Well, let me tell you what I know about this engine. It appears to have
been loved at some point, there is almost no sludge buildup inside. It
does smoke a bit however, but I haven't replaced the valve seals and
I've only changed the oil once. It's holding 30-35 PSI at idle on
Rotella non-synthetic 15W40 when fully warmed up (midrange on stock '55
temp gauge) I did pull the rear freeze plugs and thoroughly cleaned the
water jackets, including pulling the drain plugs after a flush. You
would need an intake, carb and distributor as I need all that stuff,
also a fan as I'd like to keep the clutch fan. Tranny seems to work OK
but I would like to get rid of the drivetrain shake before I pronounce
it good just in case it's something in the FOM. Overall there are
surprisingly few fluid leaks although the tranny could use an output
shaft seal and there is a slow leak at the rear of the engine (either
rear main or else tranny front pump, can't tell) and it looks like the
front main is starting to seep a little. Given that what do you think
would be a fair price? I could probably be motivated to let you have
the A/C bracket as well if you want as according to Ray I can't use it
in the '55 anyway - not sure if that would do you much good in a pickup
though as it should have a different water manifold.

I called it a race engine, because that sorta the way it was built. Jet
City cam advanced a few degrees, valve and head work. 15 seconds in the
quarter in a 2R truck is 'racing' <g>
