Quote without comment from the seller:

"Whenever Studebaker "bought" Paxton Products is not a relative issue.
I am aware that the merger went down in 1962.  But as long as you've
brought it up, I can tell you that the Granatelli's tell a very
different story. According to them, Paxton subsidized Studabaker with a
condition that Andy Granatelli would sit at the helm of Studebaker &
direct the Company into solvency.  Factually, this is true because in
1962, Anthony Granatelli became President of Studebaker.  Also, Joe &
Vince Granatelli were left to run Paxton Products & it was "business as
usual". Everything changed at Studebaker & nothing changed at Paxton.
"Weird", isn't it?  Later, when things weren't going so well, Andy
decided to take his ball & go home. This left Studebaker in a mess, but
Paxton was still "Paxton".
When I referred to the "Studebaker deal", I wasn't referring to the
merger.  I was referring only to the contract with Studebaker with
Paxton for superchargers.  I believe this actually took place sometime
in 1956. As Paxton geared up to build superchargers for the 57 (Golden
Hawk, I think), they also had manufactired (outsourced) thousands of
emblems for the cars.  According to the Granatelli's, after the first
batch of emblems were sent to Studebaker and the factory started popping
them on the cars, Studebaker decided they didn't want the emblems on the
cars and Paxton was directed to stop sending the emblems to the factory.
Since the emblems were not part of the contract, Paxton was stuck with
thousands of these parts.
The ad that you found supports this story. Paxton had no reason to have
the emblems made, except to go on a specific, contracted factory
production car. Superchargers were expensive even then.  The energy of
the Company was totally focused on building a better, more practical
supercharger.  Paxton Products was not in the business of selling
accessories.
In an effort to offset the expense loss of the emblems, Paxton tried
everything to get rid of the stock.  It is my understanding that every
source of disposing of the emblems failed & they thought that the entire
inventory had been sold for scrap.
Anyway, it looks like they're sticking to their story.  I still haven't
been able to contact John Gables about his car.  Hopefully I can do this
soon.
You are the best informed Studebaker expert I've run accross.  You know
your history well.  But maybe, just maybe, the history books are wrong
on this one.

Since he (Dennis) is obviously is on a first name basis with the
Granatelli's, maybe he could hook us up for an interview.
Or do we have to go through his agents, Click and Clack? <lol>..

I don't recall Andy being President, nor Studebaker being funded by
tiny Paxton. This conversation reminds me of one I had with another
fellow over the V12 Packard.<g>   I wonder if he really did have a chat
with Andy, and Andy "gilded the lily" just a bit.

Now the BS is getting deep!  Someone please!  Where in the hell do people
get these dumb stories from.  Andy Granatelli sitting at the helm of
Studebaker, now?

Actually, that story might be true....
True in that Andy Granatelli may well have said something like that.
I saw him do an interview on TV a few weeks ago and he was spewing....
He said a lot of interesting historical stuff, but he also said a ton of
things that were true only in his own mind.
And he will talk to anyone that will listen.
He went to Indy for the 500 and gave numerous interviews and attended many
functions, basking in past glories.
The fact that people who heard him speak may have repeated his word as
gospel?
I think that is more probable than possible.
And we all know that rewriting history is a lot easier when most of the
players are dead.

That's very true, In my last e-mail to the seller, I said:

"The history you were told by Andy is largely incorrect." <g>

Technically Andy WAS a Vice President. Isn't that close enough? <G>
