Okay, time to give away Bob Whiten's movie that I won a week or so ago...To
recap, it's a dreadful 50s film starring and directed by Walter Matthau
(must have been his first), called 'Gangster Story'.  As Bob said, there
are lots of cars to see in action, and I use the term loosely! I'll send
it to you, if you're the first to post with the correct answer to this
Stude question:
What engineering feature was pulled at the last minute from the '47
models?
Don't answer if you don't want the movie. <G>

It must have been the little-known twin-turbo, fuel-injected, double
overhead-cam conversion planned for the "new" 245 Commander in-line six
being prepared for 1949 Commanders. That would be the R22 engine (two
turbos, two cams). Also planned was a single-turbo model, the R12, and
a non-turbo model, the R02. (Not to be confused with the later R2.)

The whole project was scrapped when it was determined that
high-technology sixes wouldn't "do" in the fifties marketplace, that
OHV V-8s would be required to stay competitive. So the V-8 was
developed instead. This was recorded as Studebaker's last good, major
marketing decision prior to the 1959 Lark.

(However, all was not lost, because some of the technology was later
used when converting the Champion Six to OHV for the 1961 Lark.)

Do I get the movie, Tom? BP

Darn, Bob, it was the R23 engine, sorry.

So Bo or BP or whoever gets the movie, is this going to be a newsgroup
version of Fruitcake? The next winner on the NG will get the Movie?

Ooops!  I think that was on the proposed R-Series trucks, which was then
replaced with the 2R-Series, wasn't it.

Bo
