My son is working in a restoration shop where they are finishing a Marmon
V-16- aluminum ohv engine in the early 30s.

Well, I dunno, Paul; it doesn't have a huge black plastic shroud over
the whole engine that says "HEMI" on it! <G>

A $15,000 radiator, and they probably won't use the correct color
anti-freeze <g>

As long as we are talking hemi's,
Correct em where I'm wrong,
Hemi is short for Hemispherical Head, big improvement over the old
flatheads, allows for bigger valves.
But, don't most modern engines use what is called a pentroof head
design, which will allow for four large valves per cylinder?
So, is a Hemi actually outdated tech, propped up by marketing and urban
legend?

Pretty spectacular indeed. If you like Duesys, check this engine:

Today's Hemi is only a marketing ploy, it does not meet the definition
of Hemispherical since the combustion chamber is not a 1/2 spher. It's
just a cross flow head with big valves that are angled to allow bigger
valves. It's the biggest cash cow Chrysler has ever devised. It's one
of the Cheapest engines in its power class to make. That's why they are
pushing it so hard, since you pay $1000 more than the 4.7 OHC v-8 that
costs more for them to build. Now all they have to do is figure out how
to market an updated Tip Toe Fluid drive and they will have the
ultimate money maker in the auto industry.
Here is my favorite engine

caddy? I see the overhead exhaust. my overall favorite engine is the
Toyota 2TC, which is also a hemi, the block is cast but everything else
will deburr and polish up nice!

I've had bot the 2TC and the 3TC Toyota hemi. Amazing little engines
that run forever.

At 180k a friend of mine was out of work, so we replaced my 2TC with a
3TC. I couldn't see a bit of difference, but felt it.
At SDAM we have a V-12 Caddy - 60 degree OHV.
Too bad that they went to flathead with the 120 degree later ones, but
space available had changed.
I think that a V16 should be 90 degrees.
Anyone ever see a 9 cylinder trianglangular engine?

Very nice, must be 60 degree V? Bet it's exceptionally smooth.

But it sure could whup the big three.
The one in the picture came straight out of a Tucker crate. It's never been run.
