Have my 14 year old son with me for a couple weeks.Decided to take him on a
cruise on the Harley around the Cabot Trail. All the weather reports were for
the same great weather.
We gathered up my old back packing tent and matteress, and head out.Got as
far as Inverness Beach, and rented a campsite withen a rocks throw of the old
Gulf of St Lawerence.Nothing like a good salt water swim before the trail.
It started raining just as we got our fire lit.Oh well, were bikers
right, shove another stick in the fire and F&*k the rain.
By dark it was pouring. We soon discovered my old tent leaked like an old 74
H-D.Both tossed and turned and never really slept all night, first there was
a pool of water under everything, the air matteress wouldn't hold air.
By morning everything, and I mean everything was soaked. The rain had tapered
off to a nice gentle downpour. If I could have got a lighter to work and had
some camp fuel,Id have burn't everything but the motorcycle.Took a little
fit when the linining ripped out of my soaked rain suit I was trying to put
on,then ripped up the tent and air matteress and blankets, damn I wish I
could have got them burning.Left the whole mess right there and filled the
saddel bags, and started driving out of the mucky road.Stopped in Inverness
for breakfast,while I cursed the weather people,tent manufactureres,and even
Mr Harley and Davidson for building a vehical with no heater.
We drove back the 150 miles in the worst rainstorm Ive driven in in
years.Real fun in the fog on those winding roads..
So I got called into work last night, even though Im still on vacation. As
Steve Earl says,"Ive got a brand new plan."As the weather still isn't
looking good,we'll take the bike over to Dianes and get the Hawk.Take her up
home and fix a whole bunch of stuff thats been bugging me,see if I can get
some GT Hawk seats for her out of my buddys Stude boneyard, change the oil
and grease her.Theres some trim thats come loose in the 3k miles shes been
on the road, time to go all over her and tighthen everything up.Working under
the Hawk with my son the little wrench seems like a lot better way to spend
ones time than in a soaked tent.
