Twice now, I've had the sender out of the '55 due to it leaking there.
Using a new SW gasket, the first time clean and dry...the second time
using RTV to help seal, and it still leaks. Grr! The RTV turned to mush,
so obviously that FLAPS recommendation is no good. What have you done?
Many thanks, as always, for the great advice!

Tom,
Is the RTV the type that is fuel resistent?
Did you snug the sender in place until the RTV dried and wait to tighten?
Otherwise, the RTV will sqeeze out and not seal anything.

I make all of my fuel sender gaskets out of 3/32" thick cork/neoprene
composition gasket material. Carquest # JV122. You will need to replace
the 5 copper sealing washers under the head of the 5 mounting screws. If
you don't, it will still leak around the screw heads.

<<Is the RTV the type that is fuel resistent?>>
Not sure. Will read the label. duh <G>

No, I didn't. Sungged 'em wet. Again, duh.
I bought new washers and a tube of Form-a-Gasket in the tube. Sez it's
gas resistant. I'll let it set before tightening.
Thanks Bo & Ron.

The Form-a-gasket sealant and new washers did the trick! Thanks again!
