I put a 1406 on the Lark convertible, pepped it up a bit - these carbs
seem to work well, but not as well as I'd like.
Has anyone done re-jetting on these, and if so what size mains/metering
rods did you find to work the best? I ordered a kit to play with, but
perhaps someone else has experience I can benefit from.

Hey Pat,
I've the 500 cfm Edelbrock on my Lark. The original jetting should be
close. As you know, the metering rods, jets, piston springs all add to
the mix to better/more correct jetting. Anyone can give you their
recomendation, but in my opinion........., buy the "strip kit", put in
a fresh set of spark plugs take a 30+ minute drive on an open freeway
(????????), return home, check to see what the new plugs look like, jet
from there. My combination may work great for "my" car in sunny (HOT)
CA., but it might not work "properly" in your car.
Don't short cut it, take the extra time and tune it to what your engine
wants. You'll be happier in the long run.

One thing that's real important on those carbs is the float setting.
Most new ones are way off due to getting banged around in shipping.

Did you get the booklet that comes with the carb? It has a pretty good guide
on how to modify it.

My personal experience with 1406's on non-performance small cube engines is
that leaner secondary jets improve full throttle acceleration. Depending
on what you are not liking about the performance would determine the changes
you need to make. If you are happy with initial acceleration but feel full
throttle is lacking, try dropping the 95 secondary jet to a 92. Also, a
little more timing advance may be necessary.
