I can't figure what's going on with filling my car.
On some occasions, gas will drip from under the car - a few inches
ahead of the bumper - when I'm putting gas in the tank.
Right now, I'm waiting until it shows empty, then putting in $10 worth.
It seems to make no difference what the flow is, except it leaks less
at a low flow. The sealing of the hose sucker gasket seems to make a
difference, but that also changes the angle of the nozzle somewhat.
Today the gas was going in like a firehose and not a drop. I don't want
to fill it as there are many hills to climb and I don't know what the
cause is.
At times I have had it to halfway full, according to the needle, and
sensed a smell of gas after accelerating.
To add to the confusion, there have been times when I tried to get it
to leak but couldn't.
I can live with it, but sure am curious.
Ideas? (Remember that I face strict rules in this condo scheme.)

It is definitely your rubber hose from the fill pipe to the tank thats
disintigrating. Without removing the black oval plate on the trunk floor
that surrounds it, all you see of it is the top corner of it. The rest is
below the floor. SI or SASCO have that rubber fill hose.

My guess would be the large rubber hose that connects the filler neck
to the tank. With time, they get brittle and crack.

If the rubber hose was leaking, wouldn't that be INSIDE the trunk? Is
there another one under the car?

If it is cracked at the tank it would be leaking at a point under the
truck floor.
Remove the metal ring and rubber shield around the filler pipe and you
can see it at the tank.

Most of the hose is underneath. These crack with age. Check with your
local REAL auto parts store or order from one of our friendly vendors.
It's an easy cheap fix compared to the consequences of putting it
off...(flaming BBQ pit of death)

Thanks, you all.
I don't know which is harder, dropping the tank or cleaning out my
trunk!
Local FLAPS is great and there is nothing else I want to order.
