If it's a real Studillac, it has to be a Bill Frick car. Easy to tell,
once you see the way he did the 12 volt conversion with lots of big wire
wound resistors.

Also, it should have Studillac script on the fenders (I think) and a 160
speedometer with a tach where the clock normally goes on a Commander. If it
is an automatic, it will be the old Hydramatic (no Park position).

It is 12 voltes, but doesn't have Studillac wrote on it anywhere. It
also has manual tranny. Didn't notice the guages.

Nothing wrong with no parking position - just shut off the engine and
put the selector in "R".
It will probably have a rear oil pump, so push starts are possible.
Might it be a four speed Hydro?

Karl,
If it didn't have a Park position, it was a 4 speed Hydramatic. I had
a '56, and later, a '62 Caddy, and both had 4 speed Hydramatics, and
both had "Park". Which means that, given there was no prior 3 speed
Hydramatic, any made sans the "park" feature had to be 4 speeds.
Elementary, my dear Watson.
And, gee, I really liked those trannies. Studebaker should have bitten
the bullet and bought Hydros from GM. Very economical.

FWIW:
My 1951 Olds had a hydramatic, which I think was 3 speed, and had no
Park.
The '55 Willys Bermuda was 4 speed, w/o "P"
Both could be push started.
Uncle Joe's '40 Olds had no "P".
