I was wonder what was the correct paint color for 1956 automatic
transmission?  And was it a different for the Standard transmission?  Plus
on the bottom of the auto-transmission pan was it left plain or painted a
color?

Did they even paint the trannies?  I've seem some overspray on them but
never seen one that was "painted".

The only "factory painted " Studebaker tranny I've seen is in my 8E28A
dump truck. Its a rustoleum/primer red.

I believe they were dipped in used SAE 30 engine oil as a rust
preservative.  At least all the ones I've seen have that finish :)

My NOS 3sp/od trans had the used 30 weight treatment, not a spot of
paint. It was in the crate with the inspection tag on it.

I've seen at least two automatics from a '56 President that were
painted light blue/green (can't spell). Seen a rebuild painted all
black. Seen many so greasy and dirty that who knows what color they
were. All the standards were unpainted.
