Man, did Ft. Lauderdale and sections south of there get washed out...
Blew a major overpass down too...
We just had a couple feeder bands go through...and we are 500 miles away
from the storm and it is heading away from us.
Look out Nawlins and Mobile!
Grumpy AuContraire - 27 Aug 2005 11:38 GMT
I'm waiting for the day that a catergory 3 or above storm passes just to
the west of New Orleans.  It will make Andrew look like child's play
since NO is well under sea level...

According to the weather this morning, Katrina may become a cat. 3 or 4 and
head towards New Orleans. After "visiting" NO, a few months ago, they need a
cat 4 to clean it up! What a pit

Yeah, But it's needs only one night of drinking, peeing & puking in the
streets to turn it back in a pit again.

I have never been within the city limits of New Orleans but have passed
it numerous times on I-10.  The geology is well known and it will not be
help to the inhabitants if a major storm were to strike.

This storm stayed on a south west course after exiting the Florida
mainland for far longer than the experts originally thought and it
certainly makes the future path interesting to say the least...

Looks like the city is about to get scrubbed clean.

This one could make Hurricane Hugo vs. Charleson, SC look like a afternoon
rain shower.

Man.....
Living where hurricanes can wipe you out sets a tone sometimes...
This one, even though it missed me completely, still gives me a knot in my
stomach...
This is a nasty SOB and anyone in it's path is gonna get steamrolled...
This is the kind of storm that will flood Cincinnati and Pittsburgh without
so much as a hiccup.
Any dufus's that try to 'ride it out' have got rocks for brains...especially
at sea level near the coast.
South of Miami they had 3 foot of water standing....miles inland...
Another insurance rate hike is coming....

Sort of reminds me of Harry Truman, (not the president), who decided to
"ride out" Mt St Helens and got buried in over fifty feet of debris.
Evolution doing its thing I suppose...

Watching the TV clips of the evacuation also shows this phenomena......
Six lanes open going north...
Almost everyone is in the left lane....
Amazing...absolutely amazing...

I'd much rather live with the earthquakes and great weather of northern
california.

More people reach an early death in major hurricanes and "Nor'easters"
than in all the California earthquakes since I moved here in 1972.
Obviously, thiis includes all connected causes.
Just visualize a bad winter storm in Chicago.
Hypothermia, slips (including later results), auto accidents, heart
attacks, and so on.

Few associated early deaths from quakes.

Now a Cat. 5 and seems likely to remain so until it hits land.
Expecting 20-25 feet storm surge off of Lake Poncetrain (sp?).  I hope
for the best for the folk in that area, but it doesn't look good right
now.

Where did you find that statement ? I too have never seen anything like
that. Nothing on the New Orleans weather site talking in those terms
although I have read press speculation in those terms.

Sorry, I should have posted the link.  That statement seems so over the
top it can't be real, but it is...

http://weather.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/iwszone?Sites=:laz069

I found out about it from a very busy WWL TV forum, those people are
scared and have good reason to be.

http://www.wwltv.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=cb448b9433990050026366d64acd69b9

The people of New Orleans and that area need our prayers.

Unbelievably tragic...
New Orleans was hurt bad and all that rain has the water still rising.....
And Biloxi....
It's gone!!
Everything close to the shore was scraped clean...amazing...
Absolutely devastated...
Another water tower snapped off and tossed.
Stunning images, and so sad...
I was at a Holiday Inn Express 50 miles east off Tallahassee this morning
and it was FULL of people either running away from, or trying to get back to
Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana..
The 'atmosphere' reminded me of 9/11.
People were in shock, and not thinking clearly....
