This went cheaper than I would have expected. While the chrome is not as
nice as some might want, over all the car does not look that bad in the
pictures. The 56 wheel covers are not that hard to find. Under the hood
and the loose wiring is not too pretty.
Did the little bondo scare folks off? Did its location scare them? Did I
miss something? Are gas prices scaring them off? Is the market getting
soft on Hawks?

Jury rigged Chrysler radiator, missing fan shroud, no door panels, badly
pitted chrome and cheap paint over some putty. (A bidder on my GT
checked it out) Nothing that 4K in chrome and a 3 K interior would not
get you a good start before body work. <g> BTW, I was bidding to near
the end, but it got too risky. ) Still, a good price for a 20 footer,
make up a cheap interior and quit while you are ahead or build HFH II.

It is a nice 20 to 30 footer, but, the only positive is the new headliner,
no cloth etc. On the other hands by the time you would get finished
correcting everything, your going to have another $12,000 to $18,000.
Everything has to come off for new paint, figure around $3000 for the paint
job, know nothing about engine but if it needs to be taken down and cleaned
out because of starting life using non detergent oil and now using
detergent figure $2000. Needs a few things done, like a fan shroud, and
proper fan. Somethings are weird, the (facing car) the left rear corner of
hood is up by almost 3/8th, the front left corneris up, the gear shift knob
is strange, A new interior is needed, the rear bumper is up way too high
preventing the backup lights if it had them to be installed. You cannot get
you hand between bemper and trunk to lift it. the fin moulding is the
plastic chrome material that Studeman sells which is great but is not
painted, or the paint came off on the upper left side.
Glove box door ascue, steering wheel shot to hell $700 no weather striping
by door hinges. Missing ash tray in arm rest in rear. Side grilles need
re-chroming. Engine needs painting and correct hose. I do not believe it has
the correct carb.
I know I am being a real bastard picking it apart, but after what I put
into my Hawk and know what else it still needs to get to my expectations,
this car was probably sold for a bit more than its worth, considering he
just rebuilt the Ultramatic and you get another one with the car. Its a nice
paint job I like the tinted windows, but I would also like door panels etc.

Dead on Bill, but there will always be a market for a 'cheap' Studebaker
for some folks. Hell, I paid $1200 for the Dirty Bird convinced I'd
finish it for 10K. I ended up with 22K in the car and the guy that
bought it for 25K paid me maybe a dollar a hour for the restoration
work. His 25K was cheaper then my $1200 in the long run.
