The BW, T10, OD conversion, (in the T-85 thread), attracted a lot of
interest.
It turns out the lighter duty Saginaw 4 speed is a natural for
conversion - no special parts needed.
http://www.chevytrucks.org/tech/overdrive.htm .
Of course, it has a Chevy style input shaft, that won't work with a Stude
bell housing.  But I've heard some folks have Studes with the light duty
Chevy engines.
Seriously, this one might work in an Avanti II.
Look at how the eight ratios are spaced - nice.
 The article is from '75.

I have bult a couple of those myself. How many Saganaw 3 speed O.D.'s have
you seen around lateley. The Sag. was used only on Chevy Monzas and Buick
Skylarks and Pontiac Sunbirds of the 80's with 4 cyl. and the 3.8 Liter
Buick 6 a healthy 350 would tear one up.Had one in a 53 K about 85 or so
never tried to put one in an Avanti but I don't think you could. I have a
Tremic TKO 3550 in my Avanti R2007 and had to do a little trimming to get
it in.

I sold a Muncie M-22 that I had in My Hawk to Jerry Kaiser. Great
tranny, nice gear spread. Someone had machined a t-85 input shaft for
it. It had a t-86 nose piece and it always leaked 90 w gear oil out the
input. Bad on clutch discs. It was found by Bruce Sandberg in a Lark
drag car from the late sixties. Jerry is going to fix the leakage
problem. Great tranny.    KM

So A.J. did Red over @ McLeod finish work on the Stude to GM motor
plate, ministarter etc??
Or did you fashion your own parts??

Transtar60: Red Roberts is still playing around with the shifters for the
new T500 and T600 Tremic trans's. When I saw him about a month ago he asked
me for the measurement of back of block to flywheel mounting mounting on
crank dimension said he didn't have it and also wanted to know where the
shifter came up on the Avanti. He is making shifters with different
offsets. I took a bellhousing off a 57 or 58 Hawk with a Ford pattern T-10
or T-85 then put the 1 1/2" adapter spacer from McLeod on it along with my
own machined pilot bushing, the ford is 1/16" smaller than the Stude.

Thanks A.J., I've sent in several inquiries and got nothing back.
