Gas prices are way up and my property taxes are going up.  My house
insurance just doubled because a lot of fools here in Florida build
rickety junk on or close to the water and regularly get blown away.  My
utility bills keep creeping up.  What to do?  Pass it on,
unfortunately.  People are always asking me "what do you charge for.."
My usual response is that I charge sometimes by the job and sometimes
by the hour.  If they want to pin me down as to what I charge an hour,
I tell them thirty five.  Due to all rising costs, I will now tell them
forty five and I think I'm stil too cheap at that.  Considering that
the majority of work I do is fixing someone else's f**k ups, I should
probably go even higher.  So what is everyone else out there charging?

I just visited a west coast rod shop website that said they charge $80 per
hour....

Went to Advance auto to buy disc brake pads for my wifes 2003
sporttrac yesterday.   Tax and all  $52.  Only one type, none cheaper.
It wasn't that long ago that most pads were about $15.

I told the guy I had been struggling with raising my service calls
from $65 an hour to $75 an hour.   I just made up my mind. I am tired
of assorbing the price increases on everything so the parts guys can
still make money.  Starting tomorrow $75 per hour.

By the way,
We have 2 Auto Zones, 3 Advance, and 2 Napa.  All the small guys are
gone now.   Just like I figured it would be someday.

(Note: i am in the electronic security business not auto repair but
you get the picture)

LOL.. for studebaker people, sometimes..  $5-8 an hour..

I have been on some jobs, where my rate per MINUTE is over $2.
the garages in my area are $65 an hour, actually..even the NON
dealerships are $50 and over.. but we got a LOT lower COLA here
than you do
