Can anyone tell me if there are two different oil bath cleaners for
1953 Studeabkers Commander v-8's? I have two. On the bottom of the part
that screws on to the Carb (bottom of the large round part) the surface
is concave (curves up). The other one curves down. The only inner
filter part I have (the part that sets in the oil) sets flush to the
bottom of the top part. The other has a gap around the edge but is
flush around the hole going to the carb. This looks like it seals off
all air to the carb.
The way I read the parts manual, it list two part numbers one for C
and k  3533058 and one for except c and k #533098.
Can anyone tell me the one that goes to the Commander Starliner?
The one with the concave bottom or the one that curves down.
I hope this is clear. Let me know if not and I'll try again.
Thanks
Gary

You might be, I said might be confusing a "wet"  vs "dry" air cleaner, in
that cas there were two versions.

I have never seen a dry type, either in reallife or n photos.  Studebaker
classified ths country into  clean states and dirty states. For example, NY
was considered "clean" while NJ was "dirty' and got an oil bath air cleaner.

What I do not understand is taht in 53 thru 59 very few states had a
majority of its roads paved, and that goes for NY also.

This discussion has been on the NG over the years, one thing the "old
timers" agree that the wet, or oi bath does a better job.
