I'm putting an NOS twin-traction DANA 44 in the pikup.  Anyone know what to
use for lubrication?  The shop manual says to use S/P Twin-Traction
Lubricant, but I'm fresh out!

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Put in a good quality 80+ wt oil, then add a tube of GM limited slip
additive.......or maybe a good synthetic if your NOS unit will be dry..

If you know anyone with spare   sperm whale oil  your home free, but that
has been outlawed for quite sometime time. You can add a can or bottle of
any of the big three's substitute, but I have read somewhere that GM is
really the only  mfg and repackages for other companies.

You will need it, and  when you go to pay for it have the guy behind you
hold you up, or lean against the wall, itis not cheap. It was something like
$60 a bottle in 1985 when they were still using sperm whale oil..

Redline Heavy Shockproof works for me, although it's probably overkill.

The RedLine stuff is great.  I now use it exclusively.

The Tomato and PBW have what Nate listed.  It is less than $10 a quart.
Takes 1 1/2 quart.

Where do you get this stuff from?  No body down here seems to have ever
heard of the stuff?  Of course, that's par for the course around this hole!

There are five full service dealers in Austin:

Forget the AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts references.

Rob:

This question was asked, and again answered, in the next Co-Operator,
probably now being printed
as part of the October 2005 Turning Wheels.

Any GM dealer: Their # 8902671 Rear Axle Lubricant, with a small chaser
bottle of # 1052358 Limited Slip additive, added during the
change/refill. BP
