Last week I got an inquiry from a man in Spokane re his '54 Starliner.  He
sent a couple pix along.  I thought it was pretty sensational (custom).  He
was not a Studebaker guy, but loves the lines.  His driveline choice is the
most interesting part (Studebaker powered).  Check the pix here
(particularly note the header setup).

Below is his description of the work he has done.
Enjoy,
Paul Johnson

"I am glad you seem to like the project.  As you can see I spend most of my
free time in the garage doing my version of a '54 Studebaker.  Just for info
sake, I smoothed most of the body and bumpers, added Dodge door handles,
leveled the top with a 1 1/2" chop in front,  built my own dash and new
higher transmission tunnel.   The frame has a Fat Man clip, air ride
suspension, 4:11 Ford 8", built Flathead 6 (balanced, .060 over, cam, ss
valves, finned head, two one barrels and a tuned header) with a T-5 5-speed
(which should really help).   It started out as a daily driver for my wife,
but I just can't leave things alone.   I think I have the best of both
worlds.  A modified studie powered Studebaker, with updated drive train and
suspension.  And best of all, the great body lines of the '53-'54.   You
should see the car when it is sitting on the ground (literally) with the big
wheels up in the wheel wells... the car just flows.   I still have a lot of
work to do, but as all of us I dream of the day I finish off the last of the
off-white leather interior surrounded by the newly painted yellowish orange
body (still have to figure out a trick yet subtle paint scheme) and drive on
down the road.   I guess that is what keeps us all going.   ..."

His mating of a T-5 five-speed to a Champion engine (185 cid) is really
something- shows what can be done if you are determined.  This might be a
good application for Champion owners wanting "a little more".

Wow, that's impressive!  Just the headers alone, but then there's all
the other detail, the guy is a craftsman.

Might be the wood mockup to pull the mold to cast an aluminum piece.

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public
servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is
warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or
inefficiency in
rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole.
Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty
to tell
the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to
blame
him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other
attitude
in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there
must be
no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President,
right
or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally
treasonable to the
American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one
else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or
unpleasant,
about him than about any one else."
