At the ZM someone told me that a Studebaker hood ornament on display at
"my" museum was labled incorrectly.

It's like the one on my '64 Commander: Upright circle-S on a
trapazoidal wedge base, with "Studebaker" on the front face.

In the case, it was marked as "1962 - 1963" on the display.

Knowing Mike, he will say, "Well, those are the years during which it
was actually mounted on cars."
Since the '63 were made in 1962 and 1963, and there were no cars made
in 1964, he's right. (and knows it, but he did mean to put '63 - '64,
I'm sure.

Obviously, I can come back with the mundane "model year" response, but
I would like a more proper, or better, improper response. Any
suggestions, I'm sure that a small group will be around to hear it.

(Mike is a jovial, witty, fat ex-blimp crewman, smart and drives an old
Lincoln.)

No prizes will be awarded.

It was used on 64-66 model years built late 63 to 65 all Lark types
except the 64 Challenger. (optional) and  64 Hawks.

Thanks. I wasn't too sure about 1963 and we don't have any sales lit
for that year or later.
(I tend not to trust the photos in sales lit anyhow, as they might be
prototype stuff that didn't make it to the assembly line.)
Sold all my books before I moved overseas.
I haven't had a '63 since 1970 or so.

Off the top of my head,  I've had Studebakers from '31, '40. '51(2),
'54, '55,
'57 (2), '60. '61, '62, '63, and many 1964s, from Challanger to Super
Hawk.
Things sometimes get mixed up without source literature.

Was the '63 like the '62. I seem to recall that it was, but the person
at the ZM said it was like the '64, but without the "studebaker" in the
front face.

You're right about that.  Most factory photos and the sales brochure show
the '64 GT Hawk without the hood ornament.  The only piece of literature
that has it is the big showroom sales binder.  It's the same illustration as
the brochure, but its airbrushed in.  On the other hand, the back cover of
the 1965 brochure shows a prototype hood ornmament on the back cover with a
different base.

The hood ornament for '62 and '63 model years is listed as 1342775, except
Y1 (taxi) and K(GT Hawk).
The hood ornament for all '64-'66 models is listed as 1358580.

So, what's the difference?  The '62-'63 part is shown with only two 3055X6
nuts, while the '64 part is shown with the nuts plus two 6-32x1/4 screws.
Is there also a difference of the letters filled with black or not?

I thought I had the answer: I've got a '65 Wagonaire parked next to a '63
Wagonaire out in the garage, so I wandered out there.  Of course, the '63
wagon is a P2 "Standard" model with no trim on it anywhere, and especially
not a hood ornament!  Maybe someone else knows.

The 62-63 hood ornament is completely different from the 64-66...sort of
rectangular with a clear plastic covered insert displaying Hawk and Lark
emblems front and rear. The 64-66 is a lazy s in a circle with
Studebaker stamped into the front of the pedestal. The letters should
flat black.
