What is the fix for '55 C/K turn signal/park light bulbs. I'm converting
to 12V, Just learned that they utilize a bulb which has "tangs" which are
equal distance from the bottom of the bulb as opposed to 1034's and 1157's.
How have you guys solved this. I suppose I could grind off one tang, but
prefer not doing so. Is there a 12V bulb in this configuration? Or do I
carefully remove the socket from the housling? If removed, do I find a
snap in housing, or do I solder the assy. in place. If anyone has PN's or
an ideaa I could find whatever it is that I need, would you please advise
me, and if they are available at local FLAPS Thx, in advance. Stan

Ask N8, I think we found a drop in replacement.

In other, static, applications, I have just removed a tang.
I might not do that in a daily driver truck using bumpy roads, though.

I knocked the old sockets out and put in generic replacements and
secured them with a small self tapping screw. Most of those old sockets
no longer have good grounds anyway.

Use some of Geo Rohrbach's 6V LED replacements.

Grumpy: Did you actually "knock" the sockets out? I'm kinda apprehensive
about putting much pressure/force of any kind on the housings I have, as
they seem somewhat delicate. I'm going to wait to see if N8 has a bulb
suggestion, and if that isn't a viable fix, I will find a way to get the
sockets out of the housings (carefully). I have cleaned the sockets, and
have good ground, so that isn't an issue,or doesn't appear to be. The
FLAPS replacement sockets you used, are they close to the correct
diameter? Thx, Stan

The ground issue is one of age and not visible with the eye. There is
no direct (that I know of) replacement socket. Since all this is hidden
from view, I really don't worry about originality.
As far as the pin locations go, I can't say for sure since my housing
were hosed from the beginning. But I do know that 1157 bulbs fit fine
in the tailights of which I used to NOS units.

There is a 12V bulb that works. it is a 1176 or 1376. It is only
available in clear however. The wattages aren't perfect - it is a
21cp/6cp bulb as opposed to 32/3 like most modern similar bulbs (1157,
P21W etc.) but it was the best I could find that would work without
mods.

I created that after doing exactly what you're doing, on a similar car.
The only thing I don't have functional is the radio. Other than the
bulbs, I used two "runtz" units for the gas and temp gauges.
good luck
