The rail car company I work for finally did what they should have years
ago,and bought a new diesel generator unit large enough to power up our
powerhouse and run boilers to keep the whole yard from freezing up in the
event of a major"interuption of service"
Shes a big Cat and shes a beaut,450 KW.475 KVA,six cylinder turbo diesel.
We just got it slid in the door and nothings hooked up,Id like to wax that
yellow paint(G)
I spoke with the guy who ordered it and they sent out for quotes from John
Deere,Cummings,Detroit,Hitachi,and Toshiba.
Catapillar beat them all price wise and and had this unit on the shelf.
Noticed their stock when up because of Katrina.
Sure is a nice looking unit, could that turbo-set -up be adapted to a 289?(G)

A heartbreaker, in a way: Cummins generator includes Onan, formerly a
Studebaker division. Too bad.

Was Onan part of "our" Studebaker or just part of a conglomerate which
included "Studebaker" in it's name?

Onan was part of the Studebaker late-50's diversification which included
Gravely and Clarke--not Studebaker/Worthington or McGraw/Edison. Does this
mean I can't run my McCullough chain saw at SDC meets anymore?
