Have a shot at getting a 245 6 cyl out of a early 50's 1T truck.Any ideas
what I will need to do to use a car 3 or 4-speed behind it?

I don't know about the 4-speed, but I had a '50 half ton with the
Commander Six and we bolted a 3spd w/od tranny out of a '47 commander
in with no trouble what so ever. Wasn't so good for towing, but went
down the highway much better

I have two transmissions out of cars laying around here...a '55 6cyl. 3spd
with o/d and a '62 V8 4spd and was hoping to use either of those.

I believe the V-8 is the correct one. I know the champ six tranny will
not bolt up, but I believe the V-8 trannies are the same as the ones
put behind V-8's.

Fred Cook has put a 3 over behind a 245.  Must be possible.

Bob,
I am in the process of putting a 245 in my '38 Studebaker. This weekend I
thought it was a good time to "document" what fits what and have pics. What
I have tried to do is take pics of the back of the enginge, plate, both
front and back of the bell housings and the front of the trany. Could you
please do the same? I will email you tonight some of the pics I took as an
example. It would be nice to have a data base. Perhaps you can take some
pics also? I don't have any pics of the later transmissions.
 Thanks,
George Rohrbach

I have a NOS water pump for 245 cid that I bought in South Bend a few years ago.
I bought it for a spare before my 245 bought the farm.  Will sell for $60 plus
actual shipping cost.

Bob,

I would expect that the 245 would have had the old crashbox four speed
behind it. That bellhousing could possibly be redrilled to accomodate
the T86 3 speed, or it might even be already drilled for it. That
would be for the early '50s "square" bolt pattern on the T86. The
"Ford-style" bolt pattern was used on later T86 and T10 transmissions,
other than the '61-'62 T10s.
