claudeski@netzero.com - 27 Sep 2005 16:51 GMT So, how many of you rich folk have registered for the Museum gala dinner? Cheap seats are $200.

I wonder if they'll have a vendor area set up outside?

bobcaripalma@hotmail.com - 27 Sep 2005 19:14 GMT Actually, Claude, my wife and I are thinking of going. Sure, the $200 per head is ridiculous, but it will give my wife a chance to again wear the fancy dress she bought for our daughter's wedding Sept 10th that was such a hit (both the dress AND the wedding).
The whole Black Tie Gala is intentionally set up to be a money-maker, no bones about it. They hope to raise $150,000 net for the museum as a result of the event. In Spokane, I heard on good authority that they had already sold EIGHT(!) of the $10,000 tables! And that was before Spokane! (Of course, that doesn't net them $80 grand; they still have event expenses like the KFC Chicken Pot Pies to buy...<G>)
If we go, we'll keep a sharp eye out for any swap-meet bargains in the parking lot <G>.BP

I knew you would. I'm with you on the fund raising aspect, but we all know how cheap most Studebaker enthusiasts are. Maybe we can get a hot dog vendor and a popcorn wagon for the parking lot. I want to go down on Saturday. They should have something going on. I'll check the website.
It should be a neat weekend.

GTtim - 28 Sep 2005 00:27 GMT Claude,
I see by the museum's website that there is a $50. party on Saturday night. I'm thinking about going to that. I wonder if the museum will be open for viewing. I was also wondering if SASCO will be open. Maybe we could meet up earlier in the day. Is anyone else interested?

Wife booked me on an overnight out of Seattle Friday, going thru Detroit and into SB by 9am Saturday. I have a car rented and motel for Sat night, then fly out Sunday morning. In my line of work, I'm not allowed vacation days during the fall ratings, so I've got to be back to work Monday morning. George, thanks for the schedule. Is there nothing going on there on Saturday?

bobcaripalma@hotmail.com - 28 Sep 2005 03:10 GMT You know, Claude, that would be a hoot: On the Friday night of the Black-Tie Gala, have some popcorn, hot dog, and soft drink vendors staged strategically around the parking lot. (You now have a brief view of my sense of humor.<G>.) BP

Unlike Tom I'm retired and can't afford a ticket to travel there and then the admission. Of course I've never done a black tie thing in my life either but could wear a dress shirt and black tie under my good bib overalls. Fred
George Rohrbach - 28 Sep 2005 04:36 GMT I plan on being there. The ASC has something going on too, I have to check it out.

George Rohrbach - 28 Sep 2005 18:35 GMT Dick Quinn sent me the following information.
The ASC has a meet in South Bend the weekend of the museum opening. We will have a tour on Saturday the 29th. Starting at about 8:00 a.m. we will be going to Rex Miltenberger's place. Rex restores only classic era Studebakers and has four 1929-31 President open cars. We will then go to the home/shop/parts repository of one of the largest private Studebaker vendors in the country by the name ot Tom Karkiewicz. From there we are planning a luncheon at Tippecanoe Place. We will have the entire facility to ourselves!! After lunch we go to the South Bend Chocolate Factory for a tour (and free samples). Back to the host hotel to clean up then off to the new museum for their "Night To Remember." All ASC members who have signed up for the tour will get into this affair FREE. Others pay $50. For other details check out our website at: http://www.theantiquestudebakerclub.com/upcomingascevents/upcomingascevents.htm We also encourage our members to attend the Sunday afternoon affair.
The meet hotel is the Hampton Inn which is just north of the tollway overpass on US 31 N. Rates are $82 per night. Phone 574 277-9373 and mention the Studebaker club. Only 25 rooms have been blocked so don't wait!!
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD !! For information on how to register for the meet, go to the website and follow the instructions on where to send the check!

64daytonaht - 28 Sep 2005 22:10 GMT You know what my good friend Chuck Naugle said about all this. "Not one more penny will they get from me, until there is a Studebaker museum and not an "Greater Indiana Industrial Museum"!
