Hey Guys, Finally made it home after Katrina and Rita doubled up on my
neighborhood.  Damn what a mess.  63 GT and 65 Cruiser are done after
having about 12' the first time for 7 days under salt water and then 3
days of about four feet.  What a pain in the butt.  Both cars still had
water and silt in them.  Spent 2 years restoring the GT and just
dropped the 289 back in w/R3 heads and a 447 cam, pistons bored out 40
over, had done about 50 miles on the break in. I just about had it
ready for the zone meet in Memphis.  I'll get started again once I get
my house rebuilt.  Thank God someone came up with the idea of
insurance.  The last time there was a flood, where I live, was about
150 years ago, hopefully we won't get another for another 150 years.
At least I'll still enjoy the ngr's till then, and start buggin the
hell out of yall again when I get started.  Thx, Ant

Gez, you seem to be taking it well, I like your attitude. Take the
insurance money and do it again and better.  BTW, Craig's list is loaded
with "wanted ads" for flooded collectible cars, I'd bet most will be
saved one way or another.

I'm full of sympathy for you, at this point, and admiration for your
attitude.

I second that, Karl.

And, FWIW, I once resurrected a 40 HP Evinrude outboard motor that had
been sunk in salt water, salvaged and stored for several YEARS in an
oildrum full of fresh water.

If you could at least get the engines and trannies out those studes,
Ant, and into barrels of fresh water, (maybe with some antifreeze
added for corrosion protection) they might be saveable. In anycase,
you wouldn't be doing any further harm.

I've mentioned several times here that the easiest way to free up a
stuck motor is with plain ol' fresh water.

A friend bought a 70's Lincoln that had the front end dunked during a
flash flood and then stood for over ten years.

Took the plugs out, installed a fresh starter, it spun right over.
Drained the oil, put in a fresh filter, some gas down the carb and it
started right up and sounded fine.  There was no saving the tranny
though but he had a spare anyway.

What a bummer. But I like your can do attitude. You will come out on top.
