Today was a sort of "preview" day, as the Indiana AOAI chapter had a
meeting already scheduled at the museum! We got to see everything as it
was being finalized for tonight's party. Saw and talked with Studeski,
Tom Noller and Bob Palma. Went to dinner at Tippecanoe, having a blast
for my first time in SB.

Jeff, thanks for the great pics. My friend Ed Davies and I went too
and got back today. This museum is simply stunning! I think anyone
that had had even the slightest doubts would come away a true believer!
I also heard out there that the same week the SDC nationals are in SB
in '07, the Packard nationals (PAC) will also be out there. I think
this is a great idea!
I saw Richard Quinn, Bob and Mrs. Palma, our new SDC president Ed
Reynolds, and Art Unger all the way from B.C., there! Ed Reynolds gave
a good short speech about the Museum and his association with
Studebaker for many years which was an excellent talk. Others spoke
also.
A terrific night, great food and drink, quite a band, and...best of
all, that magnificent museum building!!

Jeff, Great to meet you and GT-Tim there! I'm so impressed by what they've
done at the new Museum.
Had a terrific time with StudeSki, seeing the sights. Actually ran into
him at SASCO (and met Dennis - great guy). Had to explain to TSA folks
why I needed to get a windshield wiper motor thru airport security... Had
good chats with George Rohrbach. (sp?) Boy there's a Stude-holic!
Claude and I went out to the old proving grounds and walked amongst the
pine trees that spell the great name and saw the old mansion Egbert called
home. I'm SO glad I went to SB!! Can't wait to go back. Dang Bob P., I
miss you.
TomNoller - 31 Oct 2005 02:49 GMT
uh, read that "missed" you. Guess someone broke the sight off my rifle.
<G>
BTW, Jeff G., leave those pics on the web for a couple of weeks if you
can. I put a link to them from our chapter's homepage.

Tom, they'll be there for a long time. link away. I've got some pix
from the dedication on Sunday I'll post tonight. Got back to
Caleefornia a little late last night to do it.

It was nice seeing you too again Tom, and always nice to see StudeSki. I
did have a great time. On Saturday, I helped move cars from the Old Museum
to the 2nd floor of the new one. Probably the most fun one was the Muppet
Movie car, the real steering wheel is in the trunk, and it doesn't steer too
well!
All I can say, the place was worth the wait.

Gee George, some guys get all the good jobs don't they. The neatest
thing I saw was on Sunday for the official dedication, the building in
the backround and all the Studebakers parked right in front (No one
told us to, and we weren't in an official parking area, but all the
other spots were full. What were we supposed to do?) Now that's a
consecration!

Tom:
Sorry to have missed you Saturday evening! Cari and I didn't leave
until the end, but we spent much of the time in the galleries and not
much time out in the social area with the band...just long enough to
"visit" the South Bend Chocolate Company's Chocolate Fountain...was
that good or what?
'Glad you made the trip safely and The Proving Grounds were open so you
could walk among the S-T-U-D-E-B-A-K-E-R trees and see "The Mansion."
Quite an experience, eh?
Cheers. BP

another of those times when a ng nametag or such would come in handy (
especially for someone like me who doesn't make it back there too
often).

Jeff, great photos, thanks for posting. Who were the older gentlemen
in tuxes up on the grand staircase?

Bill, they were the Michiana Mens Chorus. A direct decendent of the
Studebaker Mens Chorus started in the 30's. Their last number was
concerning 150 years of Studebaker - words by one of their members. I'd
bet we'll see them at the '07 meet.
