Frogs and Princes

Buying and selling a bunch of Studebakers, I've come to the
conclusion that you have to expect that most frogs won't turn into
princes, but it all evens out. The 53 street rod was described as a nice
driver, but only had one wheel brakes and the turn signals and flashers
were not even hooked up. It's the kind of issue you'd think the PO would
mention, but I just blow it off and fix the stuff and hope for better
next time.
On the other hand, we have the R1 GT Hawk Sal just picked up for us.
It was described as "Needing full restoration" and having "Some rust"
and was priced accordingly. When Sal got to the car, he found a nearly
rust free straight body, rechromed bumpers, recently rebuilt front
suspension and a decent interior, but needing paint. The car started
right up and drove on the trailer a bargain at well over the owners
asking price.  I might have a run of a half dozen frogs that I can
barely break even on, then you get a prince that keeps you going. If I
were buying e Studebaker for myself I might not like the odds based on
the way most owners "forget" to mention the defects compared to the
occasional honest or even overly critical seller.

J.P, whatever happened to the GT from Jax Florida that you bought?
Have I been too busy to notice it being sold or are you still turning
it into a "prince"?  Just curious..

I bet if you freeze one really hard it will take a polish.  You can also
polish a coprolite.

'I should have waited a few days before putting the GT on ebay.  Not
only can you polish a turd, you can wax it.<g>

Just about done with it. I fixed the floor, added carpets, N8 is
making all the electrical stuff work. ( All my GT's all have working
fender top fin lights and glove box lights because of N8)<g>

Just to set the record straight, while the fender top light may have
been unnecessary, the dome light, dash lights, and glovebox light got
fixed merely because I had to trace out all the dangly wires under the
dash before I could even begin to try to figure out what needed to go
to the fuel gauge :)

I still need to figure out why a) the fuel gauge has no power and b)
when I jump power to it I don't get a reading even though there's
resistance to ground on the red wire.

The only label that fits:
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_6966.shtml

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public
servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is
warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or
inefficiency in
rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole.
Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty
to tell
the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to
blame
him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other
attitude
in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there
must be
no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President,
right
or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally
treasonable to the
American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one
else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or
unpleasant,
about him than about any one else."
