Howdy Fellers and Gals,
Well after 2200 miles in 5 days dragging an 18 foot long, 6.15 foot wide, 6
feet tall wooden box on the trailer, I finally got back home about 8:45 last
night. The trip was made at about 50 MPS because at anything faster than
that, the trailer would get REAL wiggly when passed by a semi or on a road
surface that was the least bit uneven. Other than taking for ever and my
butt hurting after the first two days, the trip was pretty uneventful. Mom
will be getting in tomorrow evening, so I've been unloading and getting her
room set up all day today.
It's GREAT to be back. I missed reading your folks posts....
OH! If anyone address any posts towards me in the past couple weeks, I
didn't get it as I just deleted the entire 1400 odd posts rather than spend
the next week trying to get caught up.

I can't believe you drove that fast,that far! Seriously,you loaded the
trailer wrong.
You needed to move more weight to the front of the trailer to
stabilize it.
Same reason you always put a car on a trailer facing forward-engine
weight in front.

The majority of the weight was to the front of the trailer. That's what
made me wonder it tended to be unstable. Would too much tongue weight cause
anything like that?

I would think that any more than a hundred added pounds at the bumper
would begin to affect stability, especially on a car..

Rule of thumb in the RV world is 10% of the total trailer weight on the
tongue.

When loading, pay close attention to the rear suspension on the tow vehicle.
You want it to barely "squat" just below normal empty riding height. In
other words, you want the rear springs only slightly compressed.
If you have too much weight on the rear of the trailer, the trailer sway can
attempt to "steer" the tow vehicle from the rear.
Too much tongue weight results in poor steering control from the front.
While completely different in nature, both problems end in the same
result... potential loss of control.

I used to aim at having the car squat abourt as much from the bella s
it did fro ke standing on th hitch area. I weighed maybe 150 - 200
pounds during this period.
A certain vendor, whom I won't name or initialize, bought the remains
of my R1 GT and loaded it backwards on his trailer. We had an
interesting ride down 101 'til we got a chance to adjust!
