My buddy's CE arrived a little while ago and after shoving it into the
shop and a quick look over in limited light, it is RRRufff.  The bed
and rear fenders look real good, that's the best part about it.  A ton
of stuff is missing and after looking at the engine/tranny for a few
bewildered minutes I realized they aren't Studebaker at all...I'm not
positive but I think they are either from a Packard or Plymouth.  A
flathead six with floor shift three speeder but rigged in the engine
compartment and the floor has been "modified" for the shifter.  All in
all a project of very large proportions...but what beautiful lines!
The cylinder head has a large "P" cast into it at the rear.  Anyone
have any ideas?  Doesn't matter about the engine as an R1 powershift
will go in it should he recover from his initial shock.  Seems even
though he had gone and seen it in person, it isn't what he
remembered...no idea what he paid for it, I will have to fill him full
of beer and drag out my best cigars to maybe pry it out of him.

George,

What year is your buddy's Coupe-Express?  If it is a "37 I may be able
to offer a small amount of help on parts - I have a few extra things
but I'm hunting for parts too.  I might be willing to trade some things
as well.

Let me know what he's looking for and I will see if I can help.

It's a 39.  There are too many parts missing to list here.  He will
have to do an inventory first.  The  boxes of stuff that came with it
are mixed with parts from other cars.

If it is a flathead six, I am guessing it is not Packard, all of the
Packards that I'm familiar with use straight eight engines, I believe
they clearly say "Packard" on the cylinder head as well...

N8 is correct that the straight 8 Packards say Packard on the heads.
However, beginning in 1937 Packard did make what is referred to as the 110
and that is a six cylinder engine. I can't remember if they say Packard or
not but I would think they do.

Actually, Packard did build flathead sixes- the 110 models of the early 40's
(maybe even earlier).

Packard Six (called the 110 in some years) was built from 1937 through 1947
and for export thru  1949.  Packard also sold them to White truck.  All
after the first year were 245 cubic inches.  A very nice engine and more
powerful than you might expect.  Coincidentally, same size as last version
of the Commander Six used in Studebaker trucks well into the late '50s.

Yep, the Packard 110 came out with the 1937 model year.  But like the
straitght 8s I believe they say Packard on the head.

There were Packard junior cars with sixes.

BTW, I may have access to a 1937 CE bare block...

Yes, Packard made sixes for the "junior" cars; the 110 and 115's.  For
the record, the junior cars also included the 120 series, a
controversial model that used a straight eight.  My mom just sold her
1939 120 a little while ago as she is in her late seveties and it is a
bit to handle.  I have done a bit of work on Packards over the years
but haven't ever worked on one of their sixes.  I'll keep the NG
updated on this thing as we get it sorted and I'm sure there will be a
long want list....if my buddy's heart holds out when he hears some
prices and if he decides to proceed.  Fortunately, his wallet is OK...

I still have bits and pices of a 39 CE sitting out back....mainly just
the frame, rearend, engine (cracked block), transmission, front
spindles (no hubs) and I think the front "shocks" (lever style).

Mike Gaither got the body months ago and didn't need these parts, so if
anyone can use them, let me know...it's just taking up vauluable
weed-growing space and I'm tired of having to mow around it!

I also have a '61 Tcab frame, body shell (needs floors), long 'Dodge'
bed, decent front fenders and front 'surround', rear end (6.89 ratio?).
No engine/trans...still has the steering column and seat springs/frame.
 The front sheet metal is the only thing worth more than scrap
prices...buy them and you can have the rest of it FREE!!!

While I'm getting rid of stuff, I might as well see if anyone is
interested ina 55 2-dr coupe. I stripped the body/interior down a
couple years ago but still have all the parts on shelves in the shop,
including the wraparound windshield. Butterknife trim is pretty bad but
still there. The front chrome is decent, just slightly pitted and the
fenders need the usual small rust repair. The floorboards had been
patched with tin sheets and I never got around to doing anything with
it, other than stripping it down. The flatty 6 and 3 on the tree runs
and moved the car around quite well 5 years ago...it's been sitting
since then, gathering dust and surface rust. I have the title to it
somewhere...but danged if I know where it might be! I bought the car in
Dallas and trailered it home and promptly misplaced it, so consider it
title-less...I have no idea who the guy was that I bought it from, so
there's little to no chance of getting a replacement title issued.

Make me an offer on any of this stuff...I"m tired of seeing it all out
back and having it remind me that I don't have the time or inclination
to work on any of it anymore!
I even have a 16' flatbed, an electric winch and will help you haul it
all off within a reasonable distance!

I have just acquired a 39 CE myself. It is mostly complete, but I do
need some bits. I am looking for engine side panels, rear bumper, and
other stuff. I am happy to share photos if anyone wants to see it,
