Thanks for all the trunk hinge input! Now to the post subject. The full
flow 289 in my parts Hawk has gotten a lot of water down its carb during
its 10 years of outside storage. It has frozen and sadly cracked the
block in a few cylinders.
Would it be safe to say the cylinder heads are junk too? Obviously the
rocker arms and stuff are ok,but the heads could possibly be cracked
too, right? I am intending to pull the crank to swap meet it alog with
whatever bolt on stuff I can get, but I am just going to scrap the
block, and possibly the heads after I strip them if you guys think they
are shot. The valves are WAY rusty in the affected cylinders,as are the
combustion chambers. If this were brand X stuff,it would have allready
been scrapped, but I HATE to pitch Stude stuff somebody might use!!
Should I save the head bolts too?So whatta you think? As
allways,thanks!!!!! FM

If it is only cracked in the cylinder walls maybe it is worth sleeving.
It's a shame to throw away a full-flow block.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe those castings are still
available NOS, so it really doesn't make sense to save them unless it
looks like they are an easy fix.  (and it really hurts me to say that,
as I'm kind of a packrat when it comes to car parts.)

I'd save the head bolts unless they are badly rusted, you never know
when you might need some.  They appear to be standard Grade 5 bolts by
the head markings to they may have other uses as well, and hopefully
they were oily enough that they were well preserved.

this block is not worth sleeving. It has MAJOR shifting in multiple
cylinders.
