the old cloth wiring on my 51 Champion between the headlight terminals and
horn relay (The section over the radiator) is going bad and should be
replaced. Is it possible to just get that part of the wiring harness? Are
the terminal attachment posts available? They are all frozen and corroded
too. Where's a good source? Thanks

Dan,
I am doing some wiring on a '51 right now as well. My advice is to
get an COMPLETE new harness and install it. If the cloth wrapping is
failing in that area, you can be assured it is throughout the car. It
is simply not worth the risk of your car burning up by trying to patch
up what you can easily replace compltetely.
Not sure where you can get the two blocks at the front corners...
have you tried letting them soak with penetrating oil for a week or so
then trying to loosen the nuts?

Get rid of that cloth,
Heck if the plastic is cracking on a newer harness, ditch it too.
The headlight wires on Grandad's 3R6 burst into sparks, and lit up the
massive pile of grease on the side of the engine (leaking valve covers,
and my uncle just kept dumping oil in)
No damage, hood was up, extinguisher was handy, but I ended up towing
the truck home, and ripping Grandad's NEW (1982ish) harness out, rather
then driving it (which was the original plan)
p.d.

Dan, I replaced my tattered wiring in my '51 with a new-made set from the
Thoms Brothers in Redlands (?) CA. Very happy with it, after 5 years use.
Replace the whole harness...you won't regret it.

I agree, REPLACE the complete harness.
You can get a reproduction wiring harness with all of the correct
fittings fabricated for your specific model from Studebakers West in
Redwood City, CA 650 366-8787.
Carl and Herman Thoms are long time Studebaker guys that have a
business selling parts for and doing repairs on Studebakers. Good guys,
quality products.

I replaced a wiring harness once before and swore to the heavens above that
I would never ever again open such a can of worms as that turned out to be.
I guess in retrospective I learned a lot but I am still hesitant about it.
I have always wanted to let sleeping dogs lie - or in this case 55 year old
wiring - but I have to do something, so thanks.

Dan,
On the '51 it is not that hard to replace the stock harness. If you
have a lot of add-on's it does get more challenging <G>

error..LOLOL
pulled part of dash out, door panel, a seat and other pieces in

Is there a source for the two terminal blocks in the front corners?
