Is there anybody who can inform me to what engine this was supose to fit?
It doesn't seems to be a R3 header.

Is there a difference from Lark to Hawk to Avanti? I thought there was just
one R-3/R-4 header.

There is only one set. They have been reproduced, as has the alternator
mount needed on Lark/Hawk.

What makes you say it is not an R3 header?
Are the port sizes to small?
Does it bolt up to any Studebaker head?
I'm not trying to be funny.
I would like to know myself. If it does not fit an R3 but fits standard
heads then I
would like to get hold of some. They look great.

Fits all V8 engines, but not all cars.

I can tell you that they will fit in a 59 Lark if you change to a Saginaw
steering box.

R3 headers will bolt to standard heads and work. It's the intake ports
that are different necessitating a different intake.

I have a set of the reproduction R3 headers on my R4 Avanti. All of the
major vendors sell them. They do not have the alternator mounting
flange on the passenger side header like the one pictured. Were the R3
Lark/Hawk headers reproduced also?
John Poulos - 28 Jan 2006 04:41 GMT
Holy crap, you are right, that must be a NOS part. I did not notice
it because a banner overlapped that edge.

Make sure you reach up inside the outlets and feel that the thin divider is
straight. Due to a core shift, some of them have a dog leg step in them and
that is real bad for flow.

Hi Jan.
I saw your question about my header in this forum.
In the Avanti part book the R3 and R4 headers has part nr 1559213,
bouth sides.
There are also R1 and R2 headers, spec. orders
Left side part nr is the same, 1559213.
The right side header part nr is 1563228 and I suppose that is the
header we talk about here.
The left side header looks just as the aftermarket "R3:s"
I cant find this item in my other Studebaker part books, only in the
Avanti book.
Have anyone seen this header on any car?
Thanks.
Lennart.
