When I was 5 years old I must have watched the "Song of the South"
Disney movie a dozen times. It has never been released on video because
some think it's not PC for showing a blissful picture of plantation
life, but as a kid, that did not come across and still does not. I was
able to buy a Chinese knock off on ebay to share with my son and he too
enjoyed it. Rumor has it Disney may release it with a disclaimer on it's
60th anniversary in 2007. "Zippity doo da " <g>

Song of the South was released years ago for distribution in Europe.  I have
an unedited copy that made it's way from Europe to Canada and then
reformated to (60htz or whatevever works with our players) and the quality
is superb.  I saw this movie when I was a kid and I wanted my grandchildren
to see it which they have and the really enjoyed it.  I don't know what in
hell any race, black or white would have against this movie.  If anything
thing,it  would belay some misconceptions, but what the hey; I don't know
everything.  "Special interest groups can't get funding for a problem if
there ain't a problem."

Same as having to buy the Warner Brother DVD set of Looney Tunes to see some
of the "banned" Bugs Bunny episodes. No more cannibal cartoons, no more Bugs
vs. Hitler cartoons because of nazi symbols.  Which brings up this thought,
can you imagine a writer trying to pass off the Hogan's Heroes show today?

I bought a copy of SoS for my niece & nephew a few years ago. The 7 yr old
boy did not enjoy it much, but his sister & the rest of the family loved it.
I gave them Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the year before & EVERYONE loved it. It
had cars, music & PVL at his best.

Its a shame that people have to take a word and twist it too their own
meaning and use. The swastika is NOT Hitlers doings, but he destroryed
its meaning and will never be used again. Below is some history for
folks.

This is one of the oldest symbols in Indian Art. Swastikas are carved
into the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia Museum of
Art and many ancient Buddhist and Mayan temples. At Albuquerque's KiMo
Theater, built in 1927 and recently restored, swastikas adorn the
proscenium, entryway and the building's exterior. Elsewhere in New
Mexico, they are evident in the architecture of the Shafer Hotel in
Mountainair and the Swastika Hotel in Raton (now the International
Bank).

One of the oldest symbols made by humans, the swastika dates back some
6,000 years to rock and cave paintings. Scholars generally agree it
originated in India.

With the emergence of the Sanskrit language came the term "swastika", a
combination of "su", or good, and "asti", to be; in other words,
well-being.

In 1940, in response to Hitler's regime, the Navajo, Papago, Apache and
Hopi people signed a whirling log proclamation. It read, "Because the
above ornament, which has been a symbol of friendship among our
forefathers for many centuries, has been desecrated recently by another
nation of peoples, therefore it is resolved that henceforth from this
date on and forever more our tribes renounce the use of the emblem
commonly known today as the swastika . . . on our blankets, baskets,
art objects, sand paintings and clothing."

Let us hope that someday the bloody hammer & sickle will be as universally
reviled as the hakenkruetz or swastika now is.

They do/did have a nice national anthem though.

It's the same problem that some people have with Tom Sawyer and Huck Fin
stories, the 'racist language' (in other words, the language used which was
appropriate and correct for the time in which the stories were set) and, in
some cases, (deep south) the portrayal of a 'white' person being friendly to
a 'person of color' or treating them as an equal.  I can sort of ermember
seeing the movie once (can't remember when but I think it was on T.V.) and
all I can remember of it is the song "Zippidy-Do-Da" and liking it.
