He does not want bids, he wants wire tranfers for $2900. With a
dozen cars up, he'll hook one or two.

I called, and it's being "expedited" (translation, it'll be down by
morning) Part of the problem is he hijacked a active account that has
some legit items listed.

You know, just for sh.ts n giggles I used the Live Help button on the
auction screen.  I chatted with "Miranda".  What a joke.  Here's what
she said:

Miranda J.:  I am going to report this to our Trust and Safety team for
investigation just to be on the safe side, I would recommend waiting a
few hours or so before you consider bidding wso that they will have
time to take a look at it. In the meantime, I suggest researching the
vehicles and sellers of listings you are interested in so that you will
be able to make an informed decision about bidding and buying. You can
find out how to do this here:
http://pages.motors.ebay.com/howto/buying.html

Yeah, I think I'll wait a while before I bid.  I did notice one thing
though, it looks like a bunch of buyers have bid on all of this
person's auctions to remove the BIN.  All have bids, and most are over
the original BIN prices.

Ebay is screwed. I just reported maybe 100 more fake listing and a major
new scam. I found a few listings where you click on the gallery pix and
it takes you to a fake sign up page, scary.

Yes, you're right--it's a MAJOR scam.  I noticed they "ended" the
auction on the GH, but it's still there, not removed.  Also, they
didn't bother to kill the rest of the auctions under that user that are
obvious scams.

Ebay really has me worried.  I always felt like eventually there would
be this huge sucking sound and it would be Ebay.  Once it becomes known
for nothing but scams, it will drive away the user base (as if there
fees are driving away the seller base).  I saw an interview on TV where
a cop said that if you have something stolen, you can probably find it
being sold on Ebay.  My father-in-law works for the railroad, and they
had several large train whistles come up missing from the storage shop.
Someone from the railroad found them being sold on Ebay, reported it
to management, and suddenly they showed back up in the storage room.

Lots of stolen stuff there I think.

A guy my brother works with found his stolen pickup tailgate that way...
went to pick it up with an undercover cop and the guy had a shed full of
tailgates.  He found the one he won, the guy helped him put it on his
pickup, paint matched perfectly, he then stick his key in the lock and it
turned.  The seller was then escorted to the local jail.

Bought a lap top on ebay that was supposed to need repair. The only
thing wrong with it was the hard drive was password protected and had no
AC adapter. Dropped in the HD off my beater lap top and it worked fine.
I'd bet it was lifted from someone although Toshiba would not tell me
who the registered owner was.

you are right about that.

the church had the model numbers, and serial numbers.... some clown had
listed the whole mess, item for item on ebay..

After the break-in at my dome during the Sacto IM, my Dad's binoculars
showed up on eBay. (I assume that the seller was not the thief, as no
one would have been so stupid as to mention that his name was on them
in the ad.)
I could get no help from eBay and I don't know if the PD even tried.

I got no satisfaction when a clock arrived broken and the Post Office
pointed out dust in the break, saying it was broken before being
shipped.

I'm getting a little bitter about eBay myself.  After over 50 good
transactions I finally got stiffed, fortunately it was not a car but
unfortunately it was a $200 carburetor.  still waiting to see if
paypal's buyer protection is as good as they claim.  Only other time I
was stiffed was on some memory chips that I never received; that was
years ago and paypal made good on those right away because the guy's
eBay account was suspended.  In this case I think it will be more
difficult because the seller has loads of positive feedback and
apparently does sell lots of good parts, just made a mistake on my
order and now won't make it right.  It's been a week now since I made
the claim and am still waiting to hear what if anything they're going
to do.

I guess caveat emptor, especially right now when all the scam artists
seem to be coming out of the woodwork.
