Hi Guys,
Well I gave up and called the Credit Union(after telling self to just
let it go).
They said they tried yesterday to get hold of me but the phone was
busy.
The Manager took one look at my credit history and said
Give the lady what she wants. Kewl, Looks like Red's getting her Kewl
back.
So here's the next ponder: Will the owners of real avaniti's snub
there nose at
the II? Ok is that like asking "do these jeans make me look fat"??

Nice going, Rhonda.
That's an '89 Avanti convertible? A friend here in Calgary had an '88, IIRC.
They are a very pretty car, but I thought the build quality, detail-wise, was kind of low.
But it would make a pretty cool daily driver, especially in your climate.
Buy it, and drive it like you own it. <GGG>

Wait until you drive one in the rain. I rode in one in a downpour
and we might as well have put th top down the way the water pours in. Of
course, even the Studebakers leaked. Avanti's, hot in the summer, cold
in the winter, wet in the rain, but right pretty in the driveway. <g>

I've never seen an example of a "dry" convertible in US made cars and
even the foreign ragtops tend to get damp. I do remember a friend's
Karmann Ghia that didn't leak and was downright comfortable in winter though.
Sorta like floor manual transmissions. American cars suck but foreign
four/five speeds tend to be smooth as silk.
Go figger...
As far as the original Avanti(s) being "wet," my old '63 was put
together pretty well and the only time precipitation would make its way
inside was when it was parked outside and there was a fine powdery snow,
a tiny bit would find itself on the driver's side rear seat.
The floor shifter however rattled no matter what you did with it.
Despite the shortcomings, that Avanti was the best "driving" car I ever
owned and on occasion, I sorta regret selling it..

Strangely enough, the '62 Lark convertible I had in the mid '80s (1990
Keystone raffle car) did not leak anywhere. I bought it near Buffalo, NY
and drove it back to Harpers Ferry, WV in a driving rain. No water got in
the passenger compartment OR the trunk. It had the original top, door and
trunk rubber.

I've been to meets where Studebaker folk have bitched about late
Avanti II's being near the Studebakers, and meets where the Avanti II
guys wanted nothing to do with the Studebakers. Then there are a few
like me that think that real Avanti's have bumpers. <g>
Enjoy the car because you like it, don't worry about the peanut gallery.

I hear thjat at one time the Swiss Avanti owners didn't deem to speak
to the Swiss Studebaker owners.
Don't know if that's still the same.

It's usually the other way around (though yours is a real Avanti to when you
get right down to it). Real owners like them all and welcome them. I have
owned three '63s, four '64s, a '66, a '72, a '76 and an '83 and loved/hated
them all, but was never "discriminated" against by one faction or the other.
You need to sign up for the Avanti Group too- more later Avanti owners post
there. E-mail avantigroups@yahoo.com and ask to join. It is a moderated
group with selective membership.

knowledge and the best magazine in the hobby all for just $25 per year.
You can read about it and join on-line at www.aoai.org
The AOAI International meet is in Palm Springs this year if you are
interested. Lots of vendors, geat seminars, Avanti and automobile
related tours/activities, car show, and great comraderie. Info on the
meet is also at www.aoai.org and you can sign up on-line if you wish.

Congrats Rhonda and do what makes you happy without worrying about the
jerks you will encounter. Besides, who says you have to hang out with
any one particular bunch because you own a similar car? Hang with
whatever crowd you enjoy being around and buy whatever makes you happy.
Life is short, enjoy the hell out of it!

F**K everyone else, are you buying the car for you or your image?

WOOHOO!! Congratulations!
Trish's 88 convertible hasn't leaked a drop in the almost three years
she's had it...and we've driven it in some BAD rainstorms.
Okay, not INTENTIONALLY...but we do drive it and on the way to a
couple of chapter meets and once on the way to the racetrack, we got
caught in a couple of Texas frog-strangler downpours and it never
leaked (except around the seal to the front window when the back window
needed "adjustment").
Drive the heck out of it...and ENJOY it! Remember..that one is built
on a Monte Carlo frame, so all the suspension is GM...a lot smoother,
MUCH nicer ride and much more fun to drive!
