Automatic Brake Adjusters

Now that I've put a couple of thousand miles on my 64 Cruiser since a
total mechanical rebuild, it's apparent that the automatic brake
adjusters aren't working on any of the wheels.  I meticulously
assembled them according to the shop manual, but none of them are
working.

Is there some known wear point in the mechanism?  Or are they just not
a workable design?

Are you sure the pressed-steel pawl is engaging the teeth on the star wheel?
Are you sure that you haven't accidentally swapped adjusters from side to side?

I put some brakes together once with the star wheels swapped from left
side to right side of the car.  The ratchet teeth pointed the wrong way
and do not get caught by the adjustor so they do not self adjust.  I'd
check that first.

GR and JH -

I verified those ratchets left and right when I did the work.  But
maybe I got it wrong.  That would certainly explain why they are all
failing to work, instead of just one or two.  Thanks, I'll check them
again.
